  • The candidate must be a citizen or permanent resident of Australia. Alternatively, the candidate must be able to work full-time in Australia.
  • In addition, the applicant must have worked in Australia for at least two years. The previous experience should have been completed under supervision.

Candidates who complete the Certificate IV in Engineering will be prepared to work as higher engineering tradespeople in the metal, engineering, manufacturing, and related industries. You can also perform post-trade work with this certification. This certificate includes both education and on-the-job training.

With this certification, you can work in the following industries: refrigeration and air conditioning, casting and moulding, computer numerically controlled (CNC) programming, fluid power, heavy fabrication, instrumentation, maintenance, plant mechanics, marine electronics, mechatronics, patternmaking, robotics, toolmaking, welding, and watch and clock services and repair.

The regulations for registration and licensure vary by state. Licences related to trade engineering can fall under building and construction licences. A licence or registration verifies that you have received sufficient training to do engineering and post-trade work in a safe and professional manner. As a certified professional, it demonstrates that you can comprehend and apply the compliance standards of engineering, operations, post-trade work, services, and repair.

The Certificate IV in Engineering (MEM40105 cert 4 engineering fabrication) provides the knowledge and skills required for an individual to be employed as a Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Mechanical) – Level II, Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Fabrication) – Level II, Special Class Engineering Tradesperson (Electrical / Electronic) – Level II within the metal, engineering, manufacturing and associated industries or as Higher Engineering Tradesperson of an equivalent level in other industries.This mechanical engeineering qualification was specifically developed for existing tradespersons in the engineering field, or to be delivered to Engineering Trade apprentices wishing to study at a higher level. By integrating a combination of practical and theoretical learning strategies – similar to that of a formal apprenticeship – it aims to develop competency. In addition, individuals may also use a formal skills recognition assessment process to achieve the qualification.
