The certificate IV in Ageing Support will help you improve your job prospects. You can upskill, transfer to other positions, and/or fill a gap in the community care sector with this qualification.

Please see the list below for our eligibility criteria:

  • The candidate must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Alternatively, the applicant must be able to work in Australia full-time.
  • In addition, the applicant must have spent at least two years working in Australia. The prior experience should have been performed under supervision of a licensed professional.

Certificate IV in Ageing Support trains you in the role of a professional in a community and/or residential environment. You will provide person-centred support to clients who may require assistance due to age, disability, or other circumstances.

You’ll gain a thorough understanding of the aged care industry, person-centred care and practices. The Certificate IV in Ageing Support is a programme that provides the theories, skills, and techniques required to begin a rewarding career in community services.

You will learn how to advocate for your clients’ interests and rights, and how to coordinate the right services and interventions for them. As a trained professional, you can deliver care services to palliative clients and clients with dementia.

This certification will prepare you for professions such as aged care team leader, home care support worker, community care worker, aged care worker, or home care planner in the elderly and community care field.

How to apply for a licence

People requiring aged care are vulnerable groups who need to be certain that they are being cared for by skilled individuals. Aged populations and their families can trust you as a safe and competent professional if you have a licence or are registered.

The regulations for registration and licensing vary by state. According to your job, you may need a community care licence or register with the state authority. Visit the website of the relevant regulatory agency in your state to learn more about licences and their requirements.

Certificate IV in Ageing Support reflects the role of an individual who serves the aged in home, community or residential environments. The worker will be responsible for performing his or her own duties as defined by the organisation, and maintain quality service delivery through the review, facilitation and development of individualised service planning and delivery. The individual may be required to lead a team and hold limited responsibility for others in the organisation.

You will need to provide a range of evidence to assist your assessor to make a decision about your competence. The types of evidence you may be asked to provide can include:
