The certificate III in air conditioning and refrigeration is open to tradies who want to work in installation, repair and service of air conditioners and refrigerators. Whether you’re a local repairman with years of experience or a student who has completed partial qualification, this certificate will get you a level 3 formal qualification in air conditioning and refrigeration.

Certificate III in air conditioning and refrigeration includes both practical and theoretical sessions to develop the skills and information needed to work in the refrigeration and air-conditioning business at a trade level. This certificate can help people enhance their career prospects by gaining new skills, refreshing and updating existing talents, changing jobs, and/or filling a gap in the industry.

  • The candidate must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. Alternatively, the candidate must hold a full-time working visa.
  • The candidate must also have a minimum of three years’ work experience in an air conditioning and refrigeration repair service role.

Certificate III in air conditioning and refrigeration will teach you how to choose components, install, set up, test, repair, and maintain refrigeration systems, large-scale food storage and preservation equipment, and air-conditioning and air distribution equipment. It details the criteria for purchasing and handling refrigerants. Education is paired with on-the-job training to complete this qualification.

You will study while working as an apprentice. If you are a trained repairman with experience, you will be evaluated on the job. In this industry, skill recognition in education and on the job is critical for training and assessment. This recognition occurs in real or very closely simulated workplace environments. This certification indicates that you have completed all competency units, either through prior experience or instruction with a recognised RTO.

This qualification provides competencies to select components, install, set up, test, fault find, repair and maintain refrigeration systems and equipment that apply to food storage and preservation, air conditioning and air distribution equipment in buildings and premises.
